THE BANK OF CANADA IS DECLARING THE RECESSION IS ESSENTIALLY OVER IN CANADA

The central bank says the economy will expand by 1.3 per cent during the summer months after three straight quarters of sharp contraction. The new forecast puts Canada at the front of the line of countries that are coming out of what economists have called the worst global recession since the Second World War.

The central bank predicts Canada's rebound will more than double that of the United States next year with a projected growth of three per cent, as opposed to 1.4 per cent south of the border. That's because Canadian consumers are more confident of future conditions and better positioned to return to spending. But the U.S. economy is also in a healing phase, the bank adds, and that will revive Canada's export sector, particularly in autos and forestry.

CONDUCTING RESEARCH FOR IMMIGRANT RESOURCES IN HAMILTON

The City of Hamilton is currently conducting research as part of the development of online resources to support immigrants living in the city.  We are particularly interested in speaking with immigrants who arrived in Canada under the Federal Skilled Worker Class or Business Class.

We are asking your organization to advise potential candidates of the opportunity to participate in this research.  Interviews will take 1 hour with 15 minutes on either side.  They will be held at various locations throughout the city.  Interview participants will be compensated for their time in the amount of $100.

We are looking for immigrants who...

    • Arrived to Canada under the Federal Skilled Worker Class or Business Class
    • Are at least 18 years of age
    • Speak English
    • Use the internet regularly
    • Landed permanently in Canada in the last 1 to 8 years
    • Currently living in the city of Hamilton (including the former municipalities of Hamilton, Dundas, Ancaster, Glanbrook, Flamborough and Stoney Creek)

If you know of potential candidates who meet the above criteria, please encourage them to sign-up for our interview pool by visiting the following link:

www.hamilton.ca/immigration

Candidates who are chosen for an interview will be contacted by a representative from Hendershot Research, a company that has been contracted by the City of Hamilton to conduct this research.  Candidates who are not chosen for an interview will not be contacted further.  Their personal information will be deleted from our records following the research.

We thank you in advance for working with us on this important initiative.  If you have questions, please contact me using the information below.
