Hamilton business leaders appeared on
THE AGENDA

On Thursday, May 21st from 8:00 pm to 9:00 pm, four of Hamilton’s business leaders who are Hamilton Chamber members appeared as panellists on TVO’s The Agenda with Steve Paikin to discuss the future of Hamilton.
The panellists included:

Christopher Briem, a research specialist at the University Center for Social and Urban Research at the University of Pittsburgh.
Ron Foxcroft, founder and CEO of Fox 40 International Inc and past president of the Hamilton Chamber of Commerce.
Jeremy Freiburger, executive director of the Imperial Cotton Centre for the Arts
Hussein Hamdani, a lawyer with Simpson Wigle who is chair of the Settlement and Integration Services Organization board
Murray T. Martin, president and CEO of Hamilton Health Sciences

Thursday evening's debate focused on the future of Hamilton's steel industry. Despite the loss net of approximately 5,000 manufacturing jobs, manufacturing still remains Hamilton’s top employment sector.  Health Care, only when combined with social services, is the second largest industry. However, Hamilton Health Sciences as an organization that represents seven administratively amalgamated facilities is now the City’s single largest employer. Health and Education have gained net 7,000 jobs over the same period. But it is important to note that small to mid-sized manufacturers still make up Hamilton's largest employment industry sector collectively.

Increased threat of
PHISHING WEBSITES

The Internet bad guys (spammers) have recently upped their game with regards to Phishing.

What is Phishing?

Phishing is the criminally fraudulent process of attempting to acquire sensitive information such as usernames, passwords and credit card details by masquerading as a trustworthy entity in an electronic communication. Communications purporting to be from popular social web sites, auction sites, online payment processors or IT Administrators are commonly used to lure the unsuspecting public. Phishing is typically carried out by e-mail or instant messaging, and it often directs users to enter details at a fake website whose look and feel are almost identical to the legitimate one. Even when using server authentication, it may require tremendous skill to detect that the website is fake.

With this in mind please exercise caution when opening emails from unknown senders.
Attached is an example of a common phishing technique in use today.
