Breach Notification Guidelines Released LIMIT THE RISK OF IDENTITY THEFTThroughout
the spring, the Canadian Chamber worked closely with the Office of the Privacy
Commissioner (OPC) and other business organizations to develop privacy breach
notification guidelines that an organization of any size could quickly implement
if there was a privacy breach to properly handle the situation. On
August 1st, the OPC published the guidelines on its website. These guidelines
will be of assistance to any organization in responding to a breach, containing
it, evaluating the risks and notifying the affected people and working to ensure
there are no future privacy breaches. Organizations would also be encouraged to
inform the appropriate privacy commissioner of any breaches. These new voluntary
guidelines provide a good template to follow and will assist in limiting the risk
of identity theft of fraud where personal information has been lost or stolen.
The Canadian Chamber will also post links to these guidelines on its Web site
for easy access for all organizations. For more information
on this issue go to http://www.privcom.gc.ca/media/nr-c/2007/nr-c_070801_e.asp

Board of Directors of the Workplace Safety and Insurance Board (WSIB) has announced
the final 2008 premium rate for Schedule 1 employers. The AVERAGE PREMIUM RATE
REMAINS UNCHANGED for 2008 at $2.26 per $100 of insurable earnings. The WSIB maximum
insurable earnings ceiling for 2008 is $73,300.00. According to the WSIB Board
of Directors, the decision to not increase the 2008 average premium rate is based
on an expectation that health and safety and return-to-work outcomes in Ontario
workplaces will continue to improve. The WSIB released preliminary
2008 premium rates in June to assist employers with their financial forecasting
and budgeting for next year. Based on the average 2008 premium rate, the WSIB
has calculated 2008 premium rates for all employer rate groups. The
2008 premium rates can be viewed by clicking on the following link: http://www.wsib.on.ca/wsib/wsibsite.nsf/public/EmployersPremiumRates2008 Last
